Central Gardens Association was founded in 1967 and is open to all residents of the neighborhood. Our vision is to be a premier, residential neighborhood in the Mid-South. Our mission is to sustain and enhance the quality of our historic neighborhood by preserving its environmental and architectural character, and to encourage a sense of community among its residents.
The Association provides a variety of benefits to its members and to the neighborhood, including:
An annual event since 1976, the Home and Garden Tour is our neighborhood’s primary fundraising event. In addition to marketing Central Gardens to Memphis and the Mid-South, the tour helps to enhance property values and provides a unique selling feature for our neighborhood.
The tour takes place the Sunday following Labor Day each year and typically features six or seven of our beautiful historic homes. Recent tours have attracted over two thousand visitors. The tour is featured prominently by The Commercial Appeal newspaper, which provides unparalleled exposure compared with other Mid-South home tours.
Proceeds collected through ticket sales and home sponsorships are used to fund all other Central Gardens Association events throughout the year. Learn more, or get involved with this year’s Home and Garden Tour.
Central Gardens host a number of block and quandrant parties. The association is available to help publicize and act as a "how to" resource for putting a party together. These parties offer an opportunity to meet neighbors in a casual, family-friendly, and fun setting. For a helpful toolkit click here.
The tree replacement program was created to help reforest/retree our beautiful neighborhood. To benefit from this terrific neighborhood perk, members of the CGA may request a tree to be planted on your property. The association will reimburse homeowners up to $250 as a contribution towards the replacement of trees. Greg Touliatos & Associates, Inc. was selected by the CGA board to conduct the homeowner property evaluation and perform the tree installation. Each applicant's front or back garden is carefully evaluated for soil, sun and aesthetics. A tree is then recommended, and trees which fit within the Arboretum guidelines are selected whenever possible for the front garden only. For the back garden, we offer a selection of trees that will grow tall to replace our canopy. To learn more about the tree replacement program, click here. To request a tree, complete the brief form on this page, and a member of our Beautification Committee will contact you.
Median plantings, maintenance, and weed control enhance property values. The CGA commits dollars each year to this beautification project. Currently, the large medians are receiving this benefit. With increased membership and donations, we can expand this program. If you are interesting in supporting this effort, please reach out to [email protected].
