Central Gardens Association Joins the Overton Park Alliance

Understanding how important Overton Park is to our neighborhood, CGA joined the Overton Park Alliance in May. The Overton Park Alliance consists of other neighborhood associations and other park support groups committed to preserving and maintaining Overton Park and to advocate for a quality park system for all of Memphis. We reviewed communication strategies and work documents, met with our city council representatives, worked the parking brigade and advocated at City Hall. The City Council voted July 19th (unanimously) in favor of a consensus plan that is viewed by both the Overton Park Conservancy and the Memphis Zoo as favorable. As a result of this effort, we now have a working relationship with many Midtown neighborhood associations, our local city council representatives and some key Midtown stakeholders.
